I always had a special place in my heart for Mr. Morton. Two teachers at Southwest pushed me to pursue a career in Broadcasting...Mr. Western, my Speech teacher, and Mr. Morton. I was in a stage of life where I just had no idea what my gifts were and what I should pursue at the next level. So, to have these two great guys mentor me in this way really carried the day and what followed was a 43 year career in Broadcasting.
Mr. Morton invited me to KCKN, where he worked doing news on the weekends at the time. Naturally, I did not turn down that invitation and so spent a Saturday hanging out with him and watching him work...picking his brain the whole time. That, as much as anything, sealed the deal for my interest in this business. I will always remember his transparency as a teacher and as a man...and his genuine caring of the students.
