IN MEMORY

Joe Juvenal

Joe Juvenal

Joseph “Howard” Juvenal, 62, passed away October 19, 2012. A friend to many, he is survived by two daughters, Kelly Johnson and Alexandria Stueve; one son, Joseph Kalkwarf; a brother Mike Juvenal; and a stepfather, John Atkins. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24. Location info at http://www.facebook.com/joe.juvenal.7. So, the ’brashly eloquent’ one, Joseph “Howard” Juvenal has passed away October 19th at the age of 62 (going on 22). Indeed, I know what you’re thinking; we’re ALL thinking it too. “This sucks!” Joe will always be remembered for his twisted yet refined sense of humor and his unconditional love for helping others. Being there for others in need was of paramount importance. I have never known someone as selfless as him. Joe leaves behind countless friends and business partners around the Kansas City area. He will be deeply missed by his children, Kelly Johnson, Alexandria Stueve and Joseph Kalkwarf as well as his brother, Mike. In deciding on an appropriate event to share his love together we have come up with this: ‘W.W.J.D’… But rather, what would JOE do? A remberence ‘Celebration of Life’ for Joe will be held between 5-8PM on Wednesday OCT 24 at Patrick’s Bar 83th and Wornall Rd in Waldo. Sharing your stories will be encouraged so come prepared. Please spread the word of this gathering and encourage they add Dad as a friend on Facebook. You are encouraged to post on his Facebook page in the coming months anytime you are reminded of something our dad has done to enrich your life personally. (Or perhaps how he has corrupted your otherwise ‘normal’ way of life?) Feel free to share any level in ridiculousness you want. Most of you know what I mean and are likely chuckling as you read this. I feel confident he’s looking down from heaven smiling for all of the wonderful things he’s done for each of us… and laughing at all of the crazy stories he shared with you too.

Those of us who knew Joe in grade school knew him as Howard and it took a while to make the transition at Bingham.  Great guy.

There is a righteous living memorial to Joe that his family has maintained on Facebook.  Go to your FB account and type “Joe Juvenal” into the search box to find it.

Thanks to Andy Anderson for the information. .

Joe had a big heart.  He was indeed a kind and loving man who would "give you the shirt off his back" and help out whenever he could. Among his many attributes as a human being was a love of music.  He came to hear Gary Paredes and I play many, many times and that was true for a lot of other musicians here in Kansas City area as well. We, (Gary and I) were honored to play at a couple of his weddings and sorry to hear that they didn't work out. Sadly, like many a good man of our generation, he had an enemy he though a friend in the form of alcohol. I miss him. Demons and all -- I miss him.  As a friend of mine wrote, "There'll be happier days over yon horizon" and indeed I hope that's true for Joe.

Joe and I met at Bingham Jr High and played football together on the 8th grade Golden Bears.  We remained close all through high school and a couple of years after.  I moved away to Tempe Arizona and we lost touch.  Thirty years later Joe called me, he was headed out to Phoenix and wanted to meet.  Since that meeting we became very close.  I would go back to K.C. and he would come out to Phoenix. Joe was like google of who’s who in our 68 class, he seemed to know everybody and what they were doing.  I’ve never met a person that gave of themselves as Joe did….I loved that man, I miss him greatly.
