John died in 2003 - it was a sudden event right after a raquet ball game. At the time, he was an insurance investigator for Farmers Insurance. Before that he was a policeman with Independence.  Among other things, John loved to sky dive. He was married and had one son, who is a KCMO policeman. His brother Andy is a friend who I see often at our church. Along with a bunch of other Southwest guys  (Steve Curtis, Rich Laudon, Steve Panknin, David Langworthy) we all worked together multiple summers and had so much fun. John was a strong and gentle man.

John had an English aunt who brought over the Beatles’ albums during 8th grade (a year ahead of the rest of the US) while we were classmates at Bryant. Tea and cookies and Beatles at 4:00 each day during her visit.

As Jay wrote, John was well liked and I think of him often.  Good times with our 2nd Pres church group.  John and Bill Byers were pals.  I saw John accidentally knock out Byers' front teeth with a cue ball at the Lake of the Ozarks.  John was always part of our mischief.  Big contributor to the SW football and wrestling teams.
